Let’s Stay Connected!

We are excited to offer some more FREE online programming to our Victoria Park Seniors Centre community through Zoom.

We are offering virtual and call-in programming. To access these programs, either click the appropriate link to connect on Zoom with video or call the listed phone number for audio only.

  • Connecting over Zoom: Click the link for the program you wish to participate in at the scheduled time. Follow the prompts on screen to open Zoom in your browser. For step-by-step instructions, watch this video. If this is your first time using Zoom, give yourself an extra 5 to 10 minutes to make sure you have Zoom up and running correctly. Another Zoom how-to resource: click here for Zoom support tutorial and click on the first one called “Join a meeting”.
  • Connecting over the phone: Call the number for the program you wish to join at the scheduled time. When prompted, enter the Meeting ID number followed by #.

  • NOTE: For online fitness and yoga classes where we cannot assist you in person, please listen to your body and use your discretion to choose which exercises you do and how intensely you do them. We want everyone to be safe. These online exercises are intended to encourage you to gently move your body, so don’t push yourself beyond what feels okay. Participating in these exercise activities is done entirely at your own risk.

  • Sending Support Pen Pal Program: The Community Resource Centre in Fergus thanks you for your patience as they continue to plan this new community program. They can now take registrations. If interested, please use their google form for registering as a pen pal. They hope to collect registrations for the next couple weeks, and send out supplies and postage by the end of September so folks can start sending letters. If you have any questions or issues with registering please contact sarahlynnkeating@outlook.com

NEW TIME: Cardio, Weights, Core, No Floor - Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. beginning October 5
A low-impact cardio and weights fitness class to invigorate and strengthen your body and soul. Please have a chair handy and weights if you have them. Wear running shoes. Instructor: Karen Murtagh.

NEW TIME/DAY: Move with Ease - Tuesdays from 3 to 3:30 p.m. beginning October 20
Do you notice that your body is stiffer and less flexible? This class is designed for those who want to increase flexibility and move with more ease during daily activities. We will use a yoga mat, a band/strap or tie, roller (such as a pool noodle) if you have one to assist with stretching. No pain, all gain. We will venture down to the floor for some mat work. NEW: Osteo Fit - Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4 p.m. beginning October 21
Physical activity plays an essential role in the treatment of Osteoporosis by stimulating our bones to maintain structure and strength. When treating Osteoarthritis it is important to ensure proper alignment of joints. Four types of exercise are necessary in the management of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis: strength, posture and core stability, balance and weight bearing. Improving strength, balance and posture reduces the risk of falling. Instructor: Jane Gage, Reg. Kinesiologist.

Zumba Gold-Toning Classes Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:50 to 10:20 a.m.
Join us twice a week for cardio with a focus on muscle conditioning using maraca-like toning sticks (or bottles of water or whatever light weights you have). Wear running shoes. Exercise program designed specifically for older adults to help achieve good bone health and reduce risk of developing osteoporosis. Focus on standing balance and building strength. NEW: From Cornwall to Scotland in 1817: A Grand Home Tour Seminar Friday, October 23 at 11:30 a.m.
In this seminar we trace the exciting travels of Emily Trevenen, a well-heeled traveller who made her way from Cornwall to Scotland in an adventurous 6-week tour in 1817. Presenter Kevin James holds a PhD from Edinburgh University and is Associate Professor of Modern Scottish History at the University of Guelph, where his research and publications focus on tourism and travel history and comparative Irish and Scottish economic and social history. An excellent opportunity to have your questions answered by a lawyer who drafts testamentary documents and administers estates. This participation-oriented seminar will focus on Wills, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. Interested in Drawing?
Do you enjoy drawing? Missing your art classes at the Centre? Our art instructor, Jim O’Haire, has volunteered to offer a weekly drawing lesson via email which I will forward to anyone who is interested. Just let me know kmorgan@centrewellington.ca and I will make sure information is sent to you. Hints, tips, refresher lessons - all to motivate you to start or continue to draw.

Blanket Project
Do you knit or crochet? Interested in contributing while staying safe at home in this time of physical distancing? Why not help us create blankets! Knit or crochet squares, 6 inches by 6 inches, with extra yarn you may have at home. Squares can be any colour. After physical distancing rules are lifted we will get together to put them together. We hope to donate blankets once completed. Contact kmorgan@centrewellington.ca for the pattern.
