It is the Township's responsibility to prepare a budget that meets the needs of the community and ensures that all of our initiatives and priorities are addressed. The Township provides programs and services to residents based on an annual budget that includes both the Operating and Capital budget.
The Operating Budget outlines our spending plan for the year. This includes the day-to-day cost of running the Township, including:
- the Township
- fire services
- parks and recreation programs
- road maintenance and repair
- snow removal
- etc.
The Capital budget outlines the Township's plan for long-term projects such as:
- road reconstruction
- water
- sewer
- parks
- fire stations
- arenas
- fleet replacement
- building projects
Council reviews the budget to ensure the goals and priorities they have set are reflected in the budget. Once Council is satisfied with the budget it is approved. Depending on the size of the project funds may be spent in one year or spread over several years.

How can I have a say in the 2021 budget?
Do you know how much money from your taxes goes to Economic Development or Winter Sidewalk plowing? Did you know that your tax dollars are split between the school boards (14%), the County of Wellington (56%) and The Township of Centre Wellington, with the Township only retaining 30%? These are some of the reasons why we are reaching out to our citizens – to engage and get input on the 2021 Operating budget – and how it affects you.
Take a moment and fill out our 2021 budget survey below. Residents will be asked to either increase, decrease or maintain the budget on services that impact their daily lives. The budget survey will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 22. Results will be shared with Council during budget deliberations.
