Centre Wellington 21-WG, 29-WG, and 30-WG Bridge & Transportation Network Study
The Study Process
The Study Team is currently determining whether this study is subject to the 2024 Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process. The cultural heritage value of the bridges is being assessed through a Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report. In addition, a review of archaeological potential is being carried out using the MCEA Archaeological Screening Process (ASP). Subject to the findings of both reviews, the formal MCEA process may not be required. Should that be the case, the study will proceed following an EA-like process to ensure that stakeholders are engaged, and that decision-making is documented. The study will include Archaeological Assessments (as required), plant and wildlife habitat screening and species at risk reviews, Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report, as well as an assessment of any potential impacts to Aboriginal or Treaty Rights. The study will also assess the impact of closing one or more of the bridges on the community, how the community is connected, traffic patterns, and response times for emergency services. A design concept for the preferred solution will be developed along with an assessment of potential environmental impacts and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any potential adverse impacts. At the conclusion of the study, a report summarizing findings will be prepared for public review.
Study Statement
The severely deteriorated state of the three bridge structures located within this localized area of the community has required closures or load limitations to be imposed on the bridges and has resulted in impacts to the road network and community connectivity.
The Township of Centre Wellington wishes to evaluate the role of each structure within the transportation network and community in order to identify the need for improvements at sites and, where determined to be required, explore opportunities to provide safe and reliable bridge crossings suitable for the current and future land uses of the study area.
