Starting December 2025 and continuing into 2026, the Township of Centre Wellington will be conducting a Water Meter Replacement Program.

The Water Meter Replacement Program is being completed to provide better service to residents, upgrade technology and improve infrastructure. The program will involve replacing water meters and transmitters at addresses that currently have meters approaching the end of their service life.

Neptune Technology Group has been contracted by the Township of Centre Wellington to upgrade water meters in homes and businesses.

This is a mandatory program in accordance with By-Law 2006-080. There is no charge for the meter or the installation. For your convenience, appointments are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The upgrade procedure requires 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be shut off for a brief period.

Neptune Technology Group staff will be contacting affected residents to set up meter replacement appointments.

What you need to know

The initial phase of the program will involve installing, replacing and retrofitting water meters and transmitters. Typically, the water meter is found in your basement or crawl space. The transmitter will be installed on the outside of your home.

  • The installation takes 30-90 minutes to complete
  • water will be shut off for a brief time during the installation
  • An adult 18 or over must be present during the installation
  • Appointment times are limited, and more information on availability will be provided by Neptune or the Township
  • Technicians from Neptune Technology Group will have identification from both Neptune and the Township of Centre Wellington
Is there anything I need to do for the installation?
  • Book your appointment - Letters will be sent out notifying residents when installations are set to begin in their zone and provide instructions on how to book an appointment.
  • Remove any items blocking your meter so the technician has open access to it - This could include things like fridges, water softeners, or any other objects that obstruct access to the existing water meter in your basement. These things will need to be removed prior to your technician arriving for installation. If the installation is unable to be completed due to objects in the way, a new appointment will need to be booked.
  • A responsible adult be present for the duration of the installation - Installers will need access to your home to complete the upgrade. Because of this, an adult of 18-years of age or older must be home throughout the duration of the installation.
Installation Process

Installations will be carried out on an area by area basis. As installers move into your area, you will receive a brochure in the mail, which will contain booking information along with details about the program.

When you receive a brochure from Neptune Technology Group Canada you will be asked to schedule an appointment within two weeks.

Meter installation appointments can be made to fit your schedule. The work typically takes 30 – 90 minutes to complete. A transmitter will also be installed on the outside of your home. This will allow the Township to read the water meter from outside of your house and will eliminate the need to gain access to your property to read the meter.
